A Genuinely Local Lunch

A Genuinely Local Lunch

Some of us are organised enough and make a fresh lunch for the day, but if like me the idea sounds great but actually executing this on a day to day basis is another matter, then why not pop along to one these local eateries. They offer a splendour of Genuine Jersey goods, and their fresh too, so you don't need to feel guilty about forgetting to make it yourself!

There are an abundance of places around the island to grab an on-the-go bite to eat but veering away from the dominant chains or supermarkets and towards the small local places has got to be a wiser choice.

Admittedly at times it might be unavoidable to buy your green beans that have travelled all the way from Kenya, but the same can definitely not be said for a lunchtime sandwich or salad. So I guess the message is to be realistic but conscious.

There are an abundance of choices, but to help you along the way here are a few…

Flavour.je (9 Esplanade, St Helier / 07829 996622)

A local hub that uses oodles of local ingredients too. Whether its breakfast or lunch you’ll be getting supreme produce thats filling and nutritious, sure to provide you with a boost of energy for optimal performance of your day ahead. Flavour.je understand that ‘Dining al Desko' might not be ideal but is often unavoidable, so at least you’ll be eating the right food to give your body the energy it needs.

La Belle Gourmande (Charing Cross, St Aubin / 01534 888 252)

This gourmet deli stocks an abundance of local goodies. All their food is freshly prepared each day using Genuine Jersey and local suppliers whenever they can. On offer are hearty soups, seasonal salad boxes and tasting boxes offering the best of the deli to take away. Their menu changes regularly, moving with the seasons so they can use the best produce possible. Seasonality and sustainability is key for the deli which goes hand in hand with supporting their local community.

Moo (47 New Street, St Helier / 01534 618396)

A hit with the health conscious kind, Moo’s (Mostly Organic Origin) main focus is healthy eating and using local ingredients. Created by Austin and Katy who thought the island lacked a healthy pit stop, so they set out to provide exactly that. If you stop by you’ll be sure to find something thats fresh, good for you and as the name states its most probably organic too! All their sweet treats are made using unrefined sugars and natural ingredients so you don’t need to feel guilty about having pudding!

Wherever you choose to buy your food to assist your daily grind, be it one of these local eateries or another, just make sure your checking where it’s come from. You might not have made it yourself but at least someone else did that day rather than it being churned out from a factory last week!
